The best part of the day can be taking a long hot shower either in the morning or before bed to help you unwind. This is a daily habit that is incorporated into your routine to keep you healthy and clean. However, some of these habits can be unhealthy.

Here are some things to avoid when showering:

  1. Washing your face with hot water

It is much easier to wash your face when you’re already in the shower out of convenience, but the hot water isn’t good for your pores. Hot water dries out your skin and can aggravate skin conditions such as acne and rosacea. Instead, try turning the temperature of your shower to cold water when you are washing your face or you can wash your face in the sink before bed to eliminate the issue.

  1. Leaving the loofah to dry in the shower

Leaving your loofah in the shower every day in a moist environment is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria to grow. The next time you shower, rinse your loofah, ring it dry, and leave it in a place where it can dry without all of the moisture being present. On top of this, replace your loofah on a regular basis.

  1. Neglecting your feet

Oddly enough, some people think that when they take a shower the water that makes contact with their feet cleans them. If your feet are prone to getting sweaty throughout the day you should make it a priority to clean your feet properly when you shower. When you walk around barefoot to the beach or around your neighborhood you can pick up a lot of germs along the way. You can also try a foot soak with Epsom salt if your feet are to getting sore from your job. This will cleanse them and help rid your feet from aches and pains.

  1. Forgetting the drain

Washing your hair in the shower can lead to a build-up of hair going down your drain. An accumulation of hair going down your shower drain can lead to blockages and clogs if your drain is not properly cleaned. Over time a drain clog can leave you showering in uncomfortable ankle-deep water. Use a drain cover to catch the hair for an easy cleanup after a shower.

  1. Using scented soaps

Using scented soaps to bring a fragrance to your showering experience can make you feel like you’re bathing in a tropical rainforest. On the other hand, using scented soaps can cause irritation to your skin. Notice if your skin is sensitive to certain soaps because perfumes are used in some soaps.
